
Red-banded Hairstreak

Red-Banded Hairstreaks are reported as occuring primarily in the southeastern counties of Ohio. This individual was photographed in a field adjacent to a woodlot in Knox County on July 5th, 2000 as it visited Queen Anne's Lace. They are reported to lay their eggs on sumac. Adults visit sumac for nectar and are also known to visit damp soil and mud.
