From the middle of May through July the Little Wood Satyr can be found along forest margins or weedy fields. It seems to prefer shady habitats and tends to fly close to the ground. Unlike other butterflies the Little Wood Satyr is rarely seen visiting flowers. It's primary food sources are rotting fruits, fermenting tree sap or damp soil. Based on the piece of missing wing, the adult pictured on the left may have just missed being food for a bird.
