Little Glassy Wing Skipper
(Pompeius verna)

The Little Glassy Wing is an uncommon early summer species that visits open areas. During June and July it wanders into gardens in search of nectar. This species can be easily approached when visiting flowers. The relatively large, square, white patch on the forewing and the white patch near the end of the antennae help distinguish this species from other small brown skippers. The underside of the hindwing often has a line of white markings. These are very faint in the butterfly pictured on the left, but the white area near the end of the antenna make the identification possible.
