This dragonfly is easy to overlook when visiting the ponds at the BFEC. It often lands on the algal mats where it blends into the background. The clear wings of this species blend into the background and only the four dark stigma near the tips of the wings are visible. This mostly black dragonfly is distinguished by the yellow dot on the abdomen and the white face. There is a small dark area at the base of the hind wings. Females and immature males are dark with yellow markings on the abdomen. This species tends to spend its time on vegetation covering the surface of ponds or low in vegetation along the shore.
